What allowed me to begin my research was my Fundamentals of Nursing Course. The professor of this course really emphasized major aspects of my final paper and inspired my original thought processes with the topic. When I expanded upon my Research I used the research I used throughout my research writing course to guide me through each step of the writing process. The assignment that helped me the most during this process can be found on page 16 and 17 and is the Annotated Bibliography. This assignment helped me as a writer the most because not only did it find me resources for my research article, but it also allowed me to see what research had already been conducted in my field.
The most difficult step in writing my article was writing my autoethnography. I stuggled with how it should be formatted. It wasn’t until a course assistant stated that I could use an appendix that I felt comfortable with the placement of my autoethnography. Also, the actual process of writing of my personal story was difficult for me at times. I believe that because of the comment about Appendices that response was the most helpful in allowing me to refocus my work and allowed me to create a paper that read smoothly. When we were doing peer-reviews, the best advice I was given was to use more of my voice and less citations. This critique reminded me of the importance of paraphrasing and having the reader hear your voice throughout the entire paper not just in sections.
I believe the final draft of my paper, pages six through fifteen, demonstrates the importance of my autoethnography, is a compilation of a lot of time and effort, and reflects what was taught throughout my research writing course. I believe my final draft could and should be presented to the nursing field to bring to the forefront a problem within assisted living facilities. I made connections to current research. I also brought something new to the medical field, a documented personal experience of working in an assisted living facility and how the care techniques taught were contrasting with those taught in nursing school. I also believe that this research article demonstrates a good understanding of what types of research someone can use.
I believe that my final draft shows an understanding of APA formatting and citation. I also believe that I can demonstrate an understanding of the importance of connecting my research with current research as demonstrated in the Literature Review on pages eight, nine, and ten. I defined autoethnography and also demonstrated its importance. I also documented the article that inspired my outline of my research which is in the methods section on page 10.
